This course will help Social Studies specialist students to be aware of the common characteristics amongst small developing states in the Caribbean and other parts of the world. It involves a study of the nature of the physical and human environments of the Caribbean ,those factors influencing the occurrence of natural phenomena in the region and the impact that these have on both physical and human environment . The course will also help students to explore changes in the characteristics of Caribbean populations, factors influencing these and the implication of the changes. In addition, the concept of sustainable use and management of the natural resources of the region will also be explored. As a result of participation in this course, it is hoped that students  will come to understand that the common social, economic and environmental issues facing these states are unique in terms of the impact they have and the strategies that are needed to address them.
