The primary objective of this course is to provide students with a solid understanding of music theory, which will serve as a fundamental basis for its practical application in various contexts. Additionally, the course aims to assist students in their readiness for advanced studies in music. The course will provide an overview of several musical components, including the elements of music, chords, tonality, time and key signature, scale degrees, composition, transposition, and compound time. The student should possess the necessary knowledge to effectively analyze music, including its composing approaches and musical aspects. The content of the course will be pitched in keeping with the grade level of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), and students will take the course as the matriculating exam.
