The course will introduce students to the
importance of Educational Philosophy both at the level of the overall society
and the individual teacher. There will be a strong theoretical background to
underpin and enrich student thinking about the major issues in Education such
as the role of Education in the development of societies and individuals. The
infusion of the history of Jamaican/ Caribbean Education into the course in the
form of case studies and examples is also considered to be advisable. There will
be a significant amount of time spent on acquiring an understanding of ethics,
professionalism and the role of the teacher. The course will be delivered by
case studies, lectures, research and class discussion.
