COURSE DESCRIPTION 

This course involves the demonstration of knowledge, skills and abilities in relation to scientific information and investigations selected from the separate sciences of Physics and Chemistry arranged around two themes:

a)      Investigating matter

b)      Forces and Energy

The course includes specific objectives designed to promote the development of  knowledge and comprehension, use of knowledge and experimental skills and investigations.

GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this course students should be able to:

  1. Develop an understanding of general concepts and processes integral to the study of physical science.
  2. Develop the relevant practical and problem-solving skills required for students to be efficient teachers of the chemistry and physics aspects of primary science.
  3. Establish the necessity of a scientific background in order to make informed decisions about the environment.
  4. Appreciate the application of scientific principles in everyday life experiences.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension in relation to: scientific facts, theories, laws concepts, techniques and principles.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension in relation to scientific vocabulary, terminology, conventions.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension in relation to scientific instruments and apparatus used in respective science, including aspects of safety.
  8. Make, report and record observations and estimates effectively in a variety of ways
