COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for student-teachers specializing in History at the secondary level of the education system. It is important that such students be exposed to the work of social activists and nationalists from across the world who have contributed significantly to movements for change in their world. It is hoped that as teachers of History present lessons highlighting the work of such individuals as Mohandas Gandhi, Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta, Marcus Garvey and Martin Luther King, Jr., among others. T he students will recognize that men and women from different backgrounds have been, and are involved in bringing about change. Topics to be examined include the Indian Nationalist Movement, the Nationalist Movement in the Middle East, Garveyism, Pan-Africanism, the United States Civil Rights Movement and the Anti-Apartheid Movement.
